Gemstone Buying Guide

Understanding gemstones is essential to making informed choices. Our guide will help you explore diamonds and colored stones with clarity and confidence.

Colour

Diamonds are graded from D, which is colourless, to Z, which shows light yellow or brown tones. D to F are considered colourless and are the rarest. G to J are near-colourless and offer excellent balance between appearance and value. K to M display a noticeable warmth that can work particularly well in yellow gold. Colour becomes more apparent as carat weight increases and in white metal settings.

Clarity

Clarity refers to natural inclusions within the diamond. Most inclusions are microscopic and do not affect overall appearance. FL and IF grades indicate flawless to internally flawless stones and are extremely rare. VVS1 and VVS2 contain very slight inclusions that are difficult to detect even under magnification. VS1 and VS2 offer high clarity with strong value. Priority is given to stones that are eye-clean and appropriate for the intended design.

Carat

Carat measures a diamond’s weight rather than its visual size. Selection focuses on proportion and balance, ensuring the stone sits naturally within the design and maintains visual harmony.

Cut

Cut determines how a diamond reflects light and directly impacts brilliance. An Excellent cut delivers maximum light return and fire. Very Good cuts remain bright and lively, while Good cuts offer a softer appearance. Cut is often the most influential factor in a diamond’s overall beauty.
